Blog 1: Meet the team and Alpha Proto

Hey everyone,

In the summer, you had signed up to beta test an EV charger that charges at Level 2 speed (up to 50 miles per hour charge rate) but with little to no installation cost.

We have had our heads down since we last contacted you. We had some typical early stage startup struggles with a co-founder leaving and then having to spend 3 months finding a replacement. Moreover, we had to realign our product development strategy in order to get prototypes out in your hands and begin beta testing.

In this blog post, I'll share you more about the team and our prototype progress!

The new team (and our first prototype):
Doug Hoang, B.S Mechanical Engineer is a Y Combinator backed entrepreneur and a proven expert in supply chain and hardware engineering related to electric powertrain systems. As founder and CEO, Doug has built three electronic technology companies resulting in over 100,000 units mass produced and shipped globally, $10 million in revenue generated, and $2.5 million in investment raised across industries including electric vehicle powertrain. I also really love electric skateboards and dad jokes.
David Berrios, M.S Computer Science, has 18 years of software development experience as computer scientist and software engineer. Mr. Berrios led the development of the embedded in-car experience at Cruise Automation, a leader in autonomous driving software using EVs. David is obsessed... actually, I don't think obsessed properly communicates his love of BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu).
Javier Rabba, B.S Electrical Engineer, has a proven track record in the fields of power electronics, battery energy storage systems, and e-mobility. Mr. Rabba has led R&D teams in the development of 100kW grid-connected inverters and innovative battery management systems. In addition, Mr Rabba has contributed to the full electrification of ICE buses at Reborn Electric and as a writer for Power Electronics for Solar and Wind Energy Conversion Systems. Javier eats 3,000 calories per day and did his first triathalon!
First working Dockcharged prototype ever! Charging your car at up to 15kW all using batteries and 110V (regular wall outlet)! Bridging the gap between level 1 and level 2 charging. Fast charging but with little installation cost!
It is pretty big and not yet modular but it works. We have a lot of work to do to make it smaller, lighter, and more aesthetically pleasing.
The beta tester units won't look like what they do on the website yet, but that is something of our target eventually.
Here is a youtube video of DockCharged charging our Tesla: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84zU2dbYbvs
Here is what the current prototype looks like now:
We are cost reducing and steadily reducing the size of the Dockcharged. Our main goal is to improve the aesthetics to the below but this is a moving taget. When it goes into production, it will change in size, shape, and ergonomics as we gather more feedback.
We are aiming to launch this first prototype to the first beta tester next week. We are in the middle of building smaller and more cost effective to produce chargers in the in coming weeks.
Next blog post, I will post more information about this charger and the next chargers - as well as when you will get your charger to test!
Thanks,
Doug, Javier, and David
